Archie is a program that enables you to search for files anywhere on the Internet by filename. It is considered to be the first Internet search engine, written at McGill University in 1990. Originally, the Internet was files hosted on FTP sites and Archie was the first index that attempted to organize the content. There is still an archived version of Archie online.
