    Abbreviated as RDP, the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol is a multi-channel protocol that allows a user to connect to a computer running Microsoft Terminal Services. RDP is designed to support many different types of network topologies such as ISDN, POTS, and many LAN protocols such as IPX, NetBIOS, or TCP/IP.
