Windows arranged so that they overlap each other. Overlaid windows resemble a stack of pieces of paper lying on top of one another; only the topmost window is displayed in full. You can move a window to the top or bottom of the stack by clicking one of the mouse buttons. This is known as popping or pushing, respectively.

Overlaid windows are also called cascading windows. Windows that do not overlap are called tiled windows.
