The K6 is a microprocessor from AMD that supports the MMX instruction set that was first launched in 1997. The K6 was completely compatible with Intel’s Pentium processors and was marketed as a processor that would work as well as Intel products, but would cost significantly less. Today, the K6 is seen as the first major competitor to Intel in the PC market.
