Barracuda: Company Background
Launched to offer organizations affordable email security, the startup entered the security solutions markets in 2003 with a spam and virus firewall as its first product. Almost 20 years later, Barracuda is an industry-leading vendor in several product markets. The Campbell, California-based company has 40 offices in more than two dozen countries, supporting 1,700 employees.
Growth, Acquisitions, and Financials
Quick success in the email security industry allowed Barracuda to scale through funding and make several acquisitions. The vendor has made 13 acquisitions, including NetContinuum, 3SP, phion AG, Purewire, Intronis, Sookasa, and SKOUT Cybersecurity.
In November 2013, Barracuda went public under the ticket CUDA on the New York Stock Exchange. Four years later, in November 2017, private equity firm Thoma Bravo acquired the firm for $1.6 billion.
