Officially released on April 13th, 2017, Zesty Zapus follows the Xenial Xerus (v16.10) edition and serves as a non-Long Term Support (LTS) release for Ubuntu, which is supported for nine months (through January 2018 in this case) as opposed to the five years of support offered for LTS releases.

What’s New in Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus?

Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus offers several significant enhancements and new features for the Linux server OS, including the OpenStack Ocata release of the cloud computing platform, driverless printing support, GNOME Core Apps 3.24, Linux Kernel 4.10, swap files instead of swap partitions, and more.

What Exactly Is a Zesty Zapus?

Zestful is full of zest, or lively and pleasing, and can also mean having a pleasant, somewhat strong and spicy flavor. The second part of Zesty Zapus refers to several types of jumping mice native to North America, and is the taxonomic genus within the family Dipodidae.

The Zestful Zapus release of Ubuntu Linux was followed by Ubuntu 17.10 Artful Aardvark in October 2017 and then by the Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver LTS release in April 2018.
