A video codec that was implemented by Microsoft as Windows Media Video (WMV) 9. VC-1 is standardized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), which specifies the complete bit stream syntax as well as transport and conformance for the delivery of high definition (HD) content. VC-1 content is transport-independent and container-independent allowing delivery over MPEG-2 and real-time transfer protocol (RTP) systems. Although VC-1 is considered a Microsoft product, VC-1 is open to implementation by anyone. Also called Windows Media Video 9 codec.
