FreeDOS is a
DOS-compatible
operating system and package of separate programs made up of open source software, licensed under the GNU General Public License (
GPL). FreeDOS is designed for use on
IBM PC compatible computers and supports supports older and the newer IBM hardware. The FreeDOS project was started in 1994 after Microsoft stopped support of MS-DOS. The latest version of FreeDOS (version 1.0) was released in 2006.
