ROMB

Short for RAID on motherboard, a memory system in which every component of the RAID subsystem is placed directly on the motherboard. A ROMB system is advantageous because the RAID component of the system is kept separate from the PCI buses so that the PCI buses do not interfere with RAID traffic and cause bottlenecking. The motherboard also typically stays cooler than other parts of a computer; therefore, the RAID system works more efficiently and reliably because it too stays cooler.

One disadvantage to a ROMB system is that the hardware is not upgraded easily.
