In a Microsoft
NT File System (NTFS),
hot fixing of disk
sectors prevents data from being stored in a
bad sector or
cluster. During a hot fix, the
operating system automatically detects bad disk sectors, relocates the data to a safe cluster and marks the bad cluster as unusable to the system. This process is
transparent to the user, requires no interaction on the user’s part and does not report any error messages (such as Abort, Retry or Fail) to any
applications.
