The acrylic plates that cover the openings that are unoccupied by a device, such as a hard drive, DVD-ROM or USB ports, on the front of the computer case are also called a blank-off plates but are more commonly called a face-plate or filler plate.

Small metal plates found on the back of a computer system on the actual case that cover the openings for expansion slots unoccupied by a sound card, video card, network card and so on. When adding a card or device to your system, you’ll need to remove the blank-off plate. Some blank-off plates are removed by unscrewing it from the case, while others you simply snap off by pushing on them.
