intrinsic attenuation

In fiber optic transmissions it is one of two main categorized factors which cause attenuation (the reduction of signal strength during transmission). Intrinsic attenuation is caused by manufacturing impurities in the glass, which typically causes absorption or scattering when the light hits the glass.
