OpenStack Ocata

The successor to the Newton release of the OpenStack open source cloud computing platform, OpenStack Ocata made its debut on February 22, 2017, as the fifteenth major release of OpenStack.

The Ocata release marks the start of a shorter development release cycle for OpenStack, as it arrived only four months after Newton as opposed to the traditional every-six-months release cycle, where one new OpenStack release debuted in April and another in October each year.OpenStack Ocata

While Ocata is the first update in 2017 for OpenStack, its successor, OpenStack Pike, followed the release in August 2017. And OpenStack Pike’s follow-up, OpenStack Queens, arrived in late February 2018.

As with previous OpenStack releases, Ocata takes its name from a nearby city or distinguishing feature relative to the OpenStack design summit corresponding to each OpenStack release. In this case, Ocata is the name of a beach in El Masnou, Spain, just outside the city of Barcelona where the OpenStack design summit was held in 2016.

Feature Enhancements in OpenStack Ocata

OpenStack Ocata serves primarily as a stabilization release for the OpenStack platform, focusing on resolving scalability and performance issues as well as continuing the drive to make the overall process of operating their own clouds much easier for enterprises.

Specific enhancements and improvements in OpenStack Ocata include:
