The Fitbit is a wearable computing device. It is a fitness band, worn on a person's wrist and is designed to track physical activity. Fitbit devices are designed to track important health and activity markers, including heart rate, quality of sleep and the number of steps walked. The device is comparable to the Apple Watch and the discontinued Microsoft Band.
Fitbit Features & Pricing
Original devices are clipped to a pocket on clothing and sense movement. Basic health monitoring could track steps taken, and when combined with user data could do basic calculations for things like calories burned or activity duration. Newer devices are a fitness band which works like a smartwatch in addition to an activity tracker. These devices track a user's heart rate, pace, distance, weight, body mass index and more.

Fitbits use build-in or connected GPS for many distance and tracking features. It also can connect to a smartphone and alert users to incoming calls and texts. The devices are categorized based on a fitness level: Everyday, Active and Performance. The basic activity clip trackers (Fitbit Zip) start at $69.99 and go up to $299.95 for the Fitbit Blaze fitness watch.
