About Webopedia

Webopedia is an online tech dictionary for IT professionals, educators and students. We provide definitions to words, phrases and abbreviations related to computing and information technology. Our goal is to provide easy-to-understand definitions, avoiding the use of heavy jargon when possible so that the site is accessible to users with a wide range of computer knowledge.

Experienced editors gather information from standards bodies, leading technology companies, universities, professional online technical publications, white papers and professionals working in the field. Definition are verified among multiple sources; definitions are never based on just one source.

Webopedia definitions evolve and change as technology and standards changes, so definitions are frequently updated to reflect trends in the field. New terms are added on a regular basis, and many of the new terms we include in the database are suggested by the site's users.

In addition to a definition of the term or phrase, Webopedia also provides in-depth articles, study guides and links to sources of further information on the topic where applicable.
