S-VHS

Short for Super VHS (Video Home System) it is an enhancement to VHS video tape standard that offers an improved recording and picture resolution. The better picture resolution is because the two parts of the video signal, chrominance (color signal) and luminance (brightness signal), are recorded and played back separately.
