Windows Server 2012
The next major release of the Microsoft Windows server operating system, Windows Server 2012 has currently been released to manufacturing, with an official debut set for October 26th, 2012. Windows Server 2012 will debut in conjunction with Windows 8, the consumer edition update to Windows 7.
Like Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 is expected to be a completely redesigned operating system developed from the ground up with an emphasis on touchscreen use via the new "Metro" interface first seen in the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system. Windows Server 2012 will also have a strong focus on cloud computing, making Microsoft's "Software Plus Services" vision a very real part of the OS by providing the flexibility to efficiently build and deploy apps and websites on-premises, in the cloud or across both environments.
Windows Server 2012 is also expected to feature functionality and capabilities for facilitating today's workstyle, providing IT with the tools to give users access to apps and data from virtually anywhere on any device, with a rich user interface. On the management side, the server OS seeks to simplify management and maintain security and control in the current climate of BYOD and global connectivity needs for employees.
