status bar

In software the status bar is located at the bottom of the GUI (graphical user interface) that shows the user different bits of information about the program they are using. For example, on a Web browser, the status bar shows the progress of loading of Web pages into the browser window. In a word processing program, the status bar would typically display information about the cursor's position within the document and often offer additional functionality, like quick access to commonly used word processing commands.
