pad-printed keycap

(pad print´&d kē´kap) (n.) A keycap on a keyboard that has had its legend printed in ink and is subsequently protected with a protective layer that typically is baked onto the keyboard. The legends on pad-printed keyboards typically are printed all at one time onto a fully manufactured keyboard.

Pad printing is a common method of imprinting notebook computer keyboards that use light-colored legends on top of dark keys. The printed keyboard is baked before it is installed on the notebook.
