PhotoREtAn HP printing technology that helps provide more vivid prints from digital photos. HP printers that use HP PhotoREt technology have two separate ink cartridges. One tricolor cartridge contains full dye-load inks in cyan, magenta, and yellow while the second ink cartridge contains light dye-load inks of light cyan and light magenta, as well as a specially formulated dye-based black ink. The black ink is richer and glossier than the usual black that is produced by a composite of colored inks. HP PhotoREt IV can produce a total of 289 levels of shade for each color. The complete palette exceeds 1.2 million colors.
