OpenVPN Definition & Meaning
OpenVPN is virtual private network software that provides secure private connections for organizations over different servers and locations. Virtual private networks use authentication such as multi-factor authentication and sometimes encryption to secure Internet connections to another network. VPNs rely on tunneling, which secures data transported over the public Internet by transporting packets inside other packets, thus increasing security.
OpenVPN’s software provides an overall VPN solution for organizations. The Access Server offers cloud, virtual appliance, and software package solutions to customers. The cloud solution connects users to different workspaces and networks, private cloud networks, or software services.
Features of Cloud OpenVPN include:
- Connectivity from any geographic location
- Strong security
- Unchanging internet protocol (IP) address
- IPv4 and IPv6 availability
OpenVPN is an open-source project, allowing the community to participate in its development, providing thorough instructions for using its different features, and publishing changes from its system updates. It offers authentication protocols for each user, such as secret keys and passwords, and encrypts data to provide added security. OpenVPN is also available for some mobile platforms.
